Personalised Loimer Pet Nat Muskateller Grüner Veltliner 2021 11.5% 750ML
Fred Loimer studied winemaking at Klosterneuburg and worked in Germany’s Nahe and the Schug winery in California before returning in 1997 to his family’s estate in Langenlois within the greater Kamptal area. A year later Fred purchased the former cellar of the Haindorf Castle on top of which he constructed a modern black cube symbolizing his love for modern elegance, reflected in his wines.
In the vineyard Fred follows a high density regime (6000 vines per hectare) to contain yields. The vines are trained low but the canopies allowed to grow high. In the cellar Fred relies on spontaneous fermentation and extended time on lees but says he works without a standard ‘recipe’ in order to be free to adapt from year to year, and from grape to grape.
Fred began practicing biodynamics in 2006 and is a founding member of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria.
Tasting Notes
AROMA
Both grape varieties are reflected on the nose - ripe pear and apple from the Veltliner, and peach and elderflower from the Muskateller.

The palate reveals notes of salinity, lemon sorbet, pickled cucumbers and pear mustard. Sparkling clean fruit. A naturally cloudy wine with clear drinking pleasure!
FOOD MATCHING
Delicious as an aperitif or with Asian dishes.
GRAPES/BLEND
55% Muskateller, 45% Grüner Veltliner.
VINIFICATION
Selective picking by hand in boxes of 20kg. Partly destemmed, partly whole cluster pressing. Destemmed for mash fermentation, spontaneous in oak casks (whole berries) for 3 days.

Decanter - 93 Pts
Light lemon in colour with some haziness. Superbly aromatic, pretty and delicately floral. Opulent aromas of grapes, grapefruit, roses, turkish delight and apricot swim merrily side by side. Frothy, vibrant fizz takes over the mouth for a moment, before melting away into fine bubbles and leaving a lovely grippy texture. The palate is floral and grapey too, with plush melon and pear. There’s a really ripe sensation and weight of fruit, but it finishes dry. Yum! Delicious! I love the energy and drive here, it’s the opposite of boring. While the majority of Loimer’s vineyards, which are all farmed biodynamically and certified by Respekt Biodyn, lie in the Langenlois area of Kamptal, the Muscat grapes for this fun, refreshing pétillant naturel wine come from Gumpoldskirchen south of Vienna.
Mike Bennie, The Wine Front - 92 Pts
Muskateller and gruner veltliner, in a pet nat style, spent six months sitting on lees. Naturally sparkling.
Fragrant wine, sweet stone fruits, some lemon curd characters, these things echo between bouquet and palate. Frothy bubbles, nice crunch to acidity, vibrant and clean style. A little quince paste character to finish. Delightful wine.
