Personalised Heathcote Estate Shiraz 2018 13.5% 750ml
A Premium Shiraz from one of the iconic producers of the region. A rich bouquet of prunes, liquorice and plums lures you into a dense world of fruit flavours wrapped up in oak. This is a great wine that will make for exceptional ageing over the next 10 years or more. Try it with hearty winter red meat dishes or vegetable moussaka.
Vintage Notes:The 2018 vintage in Heathcote has produced wines of intense concentration and power. A warm and dry spring led into a classic Heathcote summer, warm days and cool nights. Hand harvesting commenced on the 15th of February and proceeded until the 27th February. The wines are archetypal Heathcote, darkly coloured, abundant fruit and depth of flavour with seamless structure and balance.
James Halliday-95 Points. A total of 5 individual blocks and their sub-sections were hand picked and handled separately in the winery (a total of 17 batches of wine) with fermentation in a mix of open and closed fermenters with some whole bunches included, mlf, maturation in French oak puncheons and 6250L cuves. A wine that needs room to move, so break out the decanter. Heathcote shiraz on a higher, finer plane to the usual, boasting tension and refinement. Gorgeous deep purple hue with lifted florals of violet and bramble, spiced-up plums and black cherries. A most complex youngster, still yet to do the full reveal, but with high potential. Long, fine-grained tannins are crying out for time in the cellar. Jeni Port. James Halliday Wine Companion 2022, 13 August, 2021
The Heathcote Region has had a rich and prosperous place in the history of Australia. During the 1850's, Heathcote was the scene of fevered activity as an important gold field town and today Heathcote is best known for producing another rich and prized gem - Heathcote Shiraz. Heathcote Estate was planted in 1999 on the ancient Cambrian soils that define the heart of the region. The 500-million-year-old soils are integral to the distinctive characters in these special wines. The Kirby family established Heathcote Estate with the sole objective to make one wine - a single vineyard shiraz. And over the past decade, the label has forged a reputation for wines of exceptional character and longevity. Led by winemaker Tom Carson, the philosophy is to craft wines that speak of the distinct characteristics of Heathcote and more particularly, this unique site. Heathcote Estate was established exclusively for the production of one wine a single vineyard Shiraz.
