Personalised Catalina Sounds Pinot Noir 2020 13% 750ml
Three outstanding vineyards produce the fruit for this impressive pinot. An alluring mix of dark berry fruits, lifted florals and spice marry with underlying savoury notes. It’s elegant and silky with wild, dark berry flavours and gentle dried herb notes. This medium-bodied pinot has exceptional fruit and tannin balance which lingers in the mouth. Pair it with crispy skin duck or new season lamb. The majority of fruit was destemmed, leaving 15% as whole bunches in the fermenter. All vineyards and blocks were fermented separately in small open-top fermenters where the wine was in contact with the skins for up to 14 days. Aged in 15-20% new French barriques and the balance in older French barriques for 11 months
New Zealand's Catalina water planes (known as flying boats) played a vital role across the South Pacific during and after World War II. Catalina Sounds pays homage to this plane and the beauty of the Marlborough Sounds where it served and made its home. Matthew Ward's aspiration at Catalina Sounds is to continue producing excellent quality wines of beautiful fruit expression, interest, finesse and balance. Striving to create wines of great honesty and integrity that are true to their site, while attempting to incorporate complexity and longevity into the wines.
