Personalised Mountadam Eden Valley Chardonnay 2019 14% 750ml
Expert Review:
James Halliday- 93 points, Mountadam vineyard at 550m elevation. Fermented in seasoned French oak barriques with partial mlf. Here is evidence that less is always more with chardonnay, the elegance a marked step up from Mountadam’s Five-Fifty. Fruit purity and minerality triumph over oak. Bright citrus, al dente white peach and spice are ever-so-subtly blessed with classy French oak. The line and tension of malic acidity draws out a long, thrilling finish that will set this vintage among the greats from this historic estate.
Established in 1972 as one of Australia's pioneer Chardonnay producers, Mountadam was founded by the late David Wynn, without question one of the most significant contributors to the Australian wine industry and an important part of the Mountadam story. In selecting the land for the Mountadam vineyard, Wynn was the first to recognise the potential of a cool, elevated site to produce wines of great elegance and structure, and chose an area high above the Eden Valley, which he named High Eden. At 570 metres above sea level, Mountadam is still to this day one of Australia's most elevated vineyards. As of 2005, the vineyard has been owned by South Australian businessman David Brown, who has made significant investment in vineyard improvement and expansion.
