A cold site being east facing and at high elevation 260 – 300M Mean January Temperature (MJT) 20.6 degrees C. The soil is red clay loam with granitic sands and buckshot, dating back 380 million years ago to the Devonian period. It represented part of the second coming of the Victorian wine industry which had seen very little new plantings since the turn of the century. The region had always had a pedigree for great wines with the first vineyards in Grampians being planted at Bests \u0026amp; Seppelt’s, in the early 1860’s. Dry and exotic, boasting uncommon complexity in one so young in jasmine, Granny Smith apple, quince, citrus, beeswax, gentle herbal spice in Thai basil and a whisper of white pepper. All combine on a palate that is crunchy, crisp, dry and well composed.
